You know those moments that are life changing? When the next day is different than the day before and the world is turned upside down or maybe even spins the other way?
My top 5...
The day I met my best friend, I was four. She was selling girl scout cookies and I got mad because I was a daisy and trying to sell enough to win the top girl scout cookie seller. She lived on my block.
My forth grade teacher who seriously believed in me, even when I couldn't spell state capitols and didn't pay attention in history.
Going to a high school basketball game where Travis sat next to me. He snuck in my favorite candy, Skittles and said my hair smelt pretty. Don't worry, it takes more than this but that was the official start to my world spinning the other way.
First photography critique in college by my favorite professor, now and forever. I photographed a soccer ball with flash. He told me if I ever used flash on another photography project I would fail Photography 101. In fear of not only going to school for a degree my mom thought would take me nowhere, I didn't want to get an F in my first class so I buckled down and didn't pick up a flash for 3 years.
Seeing Jessica Claire's work in 2004, my world turned upside down. I was planning my own wedding and a past bride of Jessica was showing off her pictures, understandably. My jaw dropped, I was changed. 'You mean a young female can be a wedding photographer??!'. Yes, I know today this is not a novel idea but 6 years ago it was. Without this small window into what could be, I wonder how long it would have taken me to realize I could have the best job photographing people in love.
So as destiny would have it the same time I was in California to shoot a wedding, Jessica Claire had a workshop that without question I had to attend. It was an awesome first workshop experience giving me new insight and confirming what I've been doing but the best was the mock wedding set up by the people below. You must check out their work because it is amazing! I'm so excited to show Midwest brides something different and beautiful that is completely obtainable. I loved every square inch, ENJOY!
Some new friends work you can check out from the workshop and my STL photog friends work to see more!!
Oh wow!! This is absolutely stunning and gorgeous!!! Classy, elegant and subtle!!! I love it!!! :)
(10.05.09 @ 08:59 AM)WOW-Great site-I love the pictures-thanks for brightening my day!!!Francis http://www.geothermalquestions.net
(10.05.09 @ 12:14 PM)First of all, I'm going to work on getting over the fact that you didn't tell me you were going to this workshop. Second, I cannot wait to hear all about your Cali experience (including the bikes!). Third, these are stunning. Absolutely amazing - so proud of you! Fourth, I think the remarkable thing about life-changing moments is that we never realize it at the time. ...But that's what makes it all the more amazing, right?
(10.05.09 @ 02:45 PM)Ahh!! I had no idea you had gone to this workshop until you blogged about it last week. These pictures are stunning, and I'm sure you have more up your sleeve!
(10.05.09 @ 05:49 PM)Wow finally....and totally worth it too...Love the pictures, and the write up rocks...it was so nice meeting you at the workshop. will definitely keep in touch...
(10.05.09 @ 06:26 PM)i can't believe i didn't i see this post before :S it looks like you had a lot of fun.. plus some really gorgeous images!!

I would have to say that meeting definately changed my life, for the better, in so many ways. I'm getting teary eyed with this blog and your Bobbi+Mike phot session. My heart is filled with warm gooey-ness for you right now =). I luvs You!
(10.06.09 @ 04:05 AM)Stunning! I love all of them...but my personal fav is the image of Jeff...you captured him perfectly....ahhh, love them! xoxo
(10.06.09 @ 02:23 PM)Thanks everyone!
Gina-Jeff one handsome guy and you two as a couple picture perfect. I'm so happy you two had this opportunity, I would photo you two any day!!
(10.06.09 @ 02:48 PM)This is a great post Clary. It sounds like life is perfection for ya :)
(10.06.09 @ 04:38 PM)You'll be knocking the socks off the midwest brides with these! Gorgeous!
(10.10.09 @ 08:07 AM)

i'd like to see the wedding that belongs to that bouquet! gorgeous!
i like the new watermark. it's a pain but it's necessary for the safety of your photos. it's not distracting at all, either- i barely noticed.
(10.01.09 @ 10:33 AM)E, please! I can't wait to see what everyone chooses. And like Pamela, I barely noticed the watermark. I think it's the perfect size and opacity.
(10.01.09 @ 10:47 AM)either B or D!
(10.01.09 @ 10:47 AM)I vote B where did they get all that stuff....
(10.01.09 @ 10:59 AM)I am dying to see E!!!!! Please!!!
(10.01.09 @ 11:05 AM)I vote for E!
(10.01.09 @ 11:09 AM)I am dying to see more of E!!!!!
(10.01.09 @ 11:09 AM)I vote E!!! I have to see these!
(10.01.09 @ 11:11 AM)I choose F --> All of the above! I think the watermark looks just fine - it doesn't take away from the images at all. And for real, I would love to see more from the Jessica Claire workshop!
(10.01.09 @ 11:12 AM)My vote is for E--the lighting is amazing and that couple is just so cute!
(10.01.09 @ 11:24 AM)I vote for b or d. I agree with Pamela it's not too distracting and it is completely necessary.
(10.01.09 @ 11:26 AM)I want to see them all.
But I would to see the Napa Valley wedding first!
The watermark is nice. I like it.
:)
E please:-)
(10.01.09 @ 12:15 PM)Ooh, E!
(10.01.09 @ 12:25 PM)Love the couple in e--so romantic!
(10.01.09 @ 12:27 PM)E please!
(10.01.09 @ 12:31 PM)I would love to see more of a and b!!!:)
(10.01.09 @ 12:44 PM)all of them!!! but, to choose one, i say E too... your couples/engagements sessions are breathtaking ;) i'm loving that light too. and - the watermarking is fabulous.
(10.01.09 @ 01:24 PM)I vote A!
(10.01.09 @ 01:30 PM)I vote E :) I'm dying to see your take on the Jessica Claire workshop though :) The watermark is perfect.
(10.01.09 @ 01:34 PM)I vote for E (Kat and Andy)
(10.01.09 @ 01:59 PM)I vote for E!
(10.01.09 @ 02:01 PM)I vote D - that bouquet is amazing. And I really like the watermark. I'd say it could go just a touch more transparent, but only by 5-10% of what it is now. No matter what wins, I always love looking at your photos! It's a win-win situation.
(10.01.09 @ 02:27 PM)Jessica Claire workshop!! Didn't even notice the watermark until you mentioned it, but I've been staring at a computer screen all day. :)
(10.01.09 @ 02:59 PM)Napa please!
All of these are amazing! And I definitely want to know where the best places in St. Louis are.
The watermarking looks good from a reader perspective - not too intrusive. BUT it would also unfortunately be easily cropped out in many of the photos. Mean people really do suck.
I was part of C...the most fabulous and fun wedding ever. I'm sure they are all great, but I vote for C!!!!
(10.02.09 @ 05:38 PM)I like C the best. They are absolutely glowing!!!
(10.02.09 @ 07:07 PM)I vote for C! It was a wonderful wedding!
(10.02.09 @ 09:31 PM)My vote goes to C - weddings are joyous occasions and this couple definitely glows with joy and happiness. Your watermark if fine, but I would reduce its size to make it more discreet and elegant.
(10.02.09 @ 09:32 PM)I vote G-More family pictures of your trip to OC and San Fran and your Birthday adventures. I need my daily dose of Clary. Miss you!
(10.03.09 @ 05:23 AM)What's better than seeing their happiness written all over their faces?
(10.03.09 @ 08:36 AM)Fabulous photos.... I'd love to see more of the couple who laughed more than any other...B. You captured their emotions beautifully in that shot.....I want to see more.
(10.03.09 @ 10:49 AM)I want more of C.....the couple that laughed more than any other!!
(10.03.09 @ 10:55 AM)I vote for C......what a beautiful photo.
(10.03.09 @ 12:21 PM)C) for the couple that laughed a lot because without laughter you have no life!
(10.04.09 @ 08:16 AM)C is the best- obviously a very happy couple caught in a moment!
(10.04.09 @ 09:20 AM)My vote is for C. This photo would put a smile on anybodys face!
(10.05.09 @ 09:07 AM)C is the best and one of the best weddings I have been to!
(10.05.09 @ 09:59 AM)I vote for C - they couldn't look any happier!
(10.05.09 @ 04:57 PM)
Hmmm...maybe if I had stayed on my pre-vacation diet I would sign-up for the session on Saturday. I'm sure Daysha would be cheering me on!! Can't wait to see how hers turn out! As for me, there's always next year...
(07.14.09 @ 12:39 PM)Don't make me put you on the 2010 winter list for a session Krissy. btw-you are perfect just the way you are:)
(07.14.09 @ 01:22 PM)I'm thinking I need to do the 2010 winter shoot, I should have lost the weight from Baby #2 by then, right?
(07.14.09 @ 03:41 PM)If I didn't have 20 pounds to lose I would so take you up on this! It sounds like so much fun. I am hoping Christine and I can trade off boudoir sessions though later in the year after I lose some old mommy weight. LOL!
LOVE THE PICTURE!
I LOVE the photo!
(07.16.09 @ 12:21 PM)Wow!
(07.19.09 @ 11:38 PM)
Those balloons are going to be awesome, I just know it. As for the blog, I love your ramblings. It makes the photos more personal and is part of the reason why I love your blog so much. Happy photographing and safe travels.
(06.24.09 @ 05:48 AM)Clary, love the new blog...it looks AMAZING! Can't wait to see more sessions!
(06.24.09 @ 11:20 AM)I love the new blog and I think it totally suites you!! And red balloons... can't wait to see those!!
(06.24.09 @ 12:16 PM)Did you plan on matching your brides? :) I have been trying to do that lately so if end up in a photo, I don't look like a hired help. :) haha I think it's fun, too...
Love the blog! The only downside to the show v. pics in the blog body is that I can't right-click save anymore to fiel them away in my inspiration folder. :( haha
I love the new blog, and I love how well you and Travis matched your brides! I prefer the non-slideshows because it's easier to see the gorgeous photos!
(06.24.09 @ 07:04 PM)Love the new blog! Love the new photos! Have fun in CA!
(06.24.09 @ 08:40 PM)look at your trav go! i miss working with trav in the office.
(06.26.09 @ 08:00 AM)I LOVE the new blog. While I like the "wow" factor of the slide show I prefer the post with your "rambles", you can't stop giving us your "rambles"!
(06.26.09 @ 08:30 AM)

I need photos of myself and my husband/business partner for our website. Romantic? I get to capture other people's romantic/love filled/hopeful days with the person I love more than anything in this world. I'd say that's pretty romantic. It wouldn't matter where or when - just capturing our every day - normal/dorky selves is my idea of romantic.
(10.11.09 @ 11:26 PM)OK - My dorkyness really just showed because I didn't see the 27 words or less, so the end part is my idea... me and my husband no matter where or when just being our normal/dorky selves. That's my idea of romantic. And the date the winner is announced will be our 5 year wedding anniversary. What an awesome present that would be. No pressure.
(10.11.09 @ 11:39 PM)And pee ess ess - LOVE the film pics. The are dreamy. And I'm wondering what apple farm that is.
I absolutely love using film! I think the idea of incorporating digital and film is a great concept.
I love the idea of shooting in the home for a newly married couple. It captures the "newness" and the idea of them creating a "home" together.
(10.12.09 @ 12:04 AM)P.S. The pictures of the kids are fantastic :)
(10.12.09 @ 12:05 AM)Karin - you crack me up and you are not a dork!
Clary, I am a hopeless romantic and find this challenge hard :) I would love a romantic session of Brett and I having an old fashioned date eating outside in the middle of nowhere with candles and then going for ice cream later. That is us :) But I would want to look glamorous while soaking in the night. Like 40's glam. Thanks :)
(10.12.09 @ 06:04 AM)I'd love to have our engagement pictures shot somewhere warm and cozy feeling. The romantic winter pictures would be nice to contrast our future summer wedding pictures.
(10.12.09 @ 08:28 AM)My parents celebrating 27 years together cozied up to a warm fire with mugs of hot cocoa in their flannel pjs/robes or winter gear.
(10.12.09 @ 09:02 AM)clary, i LOOOVE these! (i also love your boots ;)so, can i play too? hehe
(10.12.09 @ 09:11 AM)ok, my idea of a romantic session: my husband and i, in chicago, walking around the lincoln park area, maybe having some hot chocolate + a white chocolate raspberry cheesecake (our favorite!) the end :)
Whether it's film or digital you always take the most amazing photos! I think a romantic shoot would be to photograph a couple spending a night out from afar. Capturing the moments where they are just being themselves. The touches, the smiles, the kisses in romantic settings like their favorite resturant, taking a walk or carriage ride in the park, or even their home watching their favorite movies, cuddled up in a blanket drinking hot coco. I know I used more than 27 words but I've never been good a summerizing. :)

(10.12.09 @ 09:19 AM)Clary, these pictures are gorgeous, you really capture people's personalities!
(10.12.09 @ 10:19 AM)Also, I want to participate in the contest :)
My idea of a romantic evening is cooking a meal with Dave & enjoying our great feast together in the end (along with a nice bottle of wine).
The film shoot is very romantic. I feel like maybe it looks "soft" too. I love it!
(10.12.09 @ 10:23 AM)In February, I will be 7 months pregnant with our second child : )
Thats a 2 and a 7...
Cool fall afternoon circa 2002...us= poor college kids: grabbed snacks, radio, warm blanket & each other. Quiet romantic corner in park w/changing leaves watching big clouds roll by …perfect & beautiful.
(10.12.09 @ 10:34 AM)I can do better than my last entry:
(10.12.09 @ 10:36 AM)Me. Fiance. Fireplace or firepit. February. Engaged 7 months. Wine or hot chocolate. Snuggling. Laughing. Dancing. In love. Soft. Romantic. Playful. Memorable. Glowing. Smiling. Holding hands. Perfection!
Fell hard and fast, whirlwind engagement, five years married, four children...still in love Date night in the city, lights, the contrast of gritty urban with soft romance…
(10.12.09 @ 10:50 AM)i also wanted to add that the images from this session are gorgeous...i have looked at them several times + just love them.
(10.12.09 @ 10:52 AM)12 years of romance and 3 little girls later, we still can't get enough of each other. We would love you to capture the peacefulness of "us".
(10.12.09 @ 11:54 AM)I love these photos! I'd definitely say they are romantic. I love this challenge and here is my entry :)
(10.12.09 @ 12:02 PM)My husband and I reliving our first date (five years ago this May). Bowling and rootbeer floats on an early spring evening. Relaxed and fun=romantic, right?
Well...my husband and I are welcoming our first child into the world this January and I think that's pretty romantic. Or at least maternity or newborn photos of it would be :). We're a fun, madly in love couple who can't wait to meet our biggest blessing - little Olivia Marie. Oh, and we live in St. Charles.
(10.12.09 @ 02:04 PM)LOVE this!! Your kids are just so cute, what an adorable foursome you all are! Would love to have a film session! I'll get back to you with my entry :)
(10.12.09 @ 05:10 PM)TWO big "kids", dressed to the nines. Drunk on love, embarrassingly goofy around lots of young students, where we met. Just US, celebrating SEVEN years.
(10.12.09 @ 05:22 PM)oh geez! what a challenge.... hmm....
an ice skating session at steinberg! (even though i can't ice skate AT ALL) i think it would be so romantic. cocoa and kisses included.
(10.12.09 @ 07:50 PM)Idea: 1/27/09, our 7 month wedding anniversary. Sitting in the bed of Beau's 1970 truck that we took to HS dances. Cozying up, looking at stars. The end. But.... to add another number, our 3rd session with the fab Clary :) Beautiful pics and family Clary, you're so talented, so blessed.
(10.12.09 @ 08:20 PM)I love every one of these images! Your family is so fun and I just love when we get a glimpse into the life of Clary and company!
Here's my entry for the contest:
(10.12.09 @ 08:27 PM)The moment my daughter was born, I became a mother. In January she will become a sister, a moment that will make my heart swell with love.
These are just fantastic! I love the "feel" film oozes out! I love seeing photos of your family because they always make my heart smile :)
You are really willing to travel to Chicago for this session? Chicago holds a very dear place in my heart, it's where Danny and I decided to start our lives together during a very cold winter eight years ago. We are now enjoying our 7th year of marriage. How dreamy would a winter session is Chicago be! Here is my submission :)
The twinkling lights streamed down Michigan Ave, enjoying German treats at the Christkindlmarket in Daley Plaza, and I can't forget the yummy, warm pizza! Perfect winter day!
(sorry for the book)
(10.12.09 @ 10:20 PM)I love all of these pictures and it always makes my heart melt to see you guys. Travis' pic makes me LOL. And I think Jettie is giving Hughes a run for his money in the shutterbug department. Tell my Godson he needs to step up his game, and tell my Goddaughter Good Job!
(10.13.09 @ 04:57 AM)Husband and wife welcoming the spring equinox sunrise atop Monks Mound at Cahokia Mounds w/ coffee, hot chocolate, a blanket, and love.
(10.13.09 @ 11:00 AM)Love these, your kiddos are adorable. I remember when I began shooting b/w film was my favorite.
(10.13.09 @ 03:26 PM)two people walking through the park...enjoying the beauty mother nature provides and company of each other...feeling the warmth of your partner as you walk hand in hand...love
(10.13.09 @ 11:00 PM)Aww I just want to steal your family and make them mine..sooo adorable and cute...Such awesomeness...
(10.14.09 @ 12:18 AM)Here's a romantic idea...Me. My man. The dog. 8 years together. I've told him when he proposes, I want to capture it on film. Cooking. Cuddling. Making Snowangels.
(10.14.09 @ 10:37 AM)Here's a romantic idea...Me. My man. The dog. 8 years together. I've told him when he proposes, I want to capture it on film. Cooking. Cuddling. Making Snowangels.
(10.14.09 @ 10:41 AM)Here's a romantic idea...Me. My man. The dog. 8 years together. I've told him when he proposes, I want to capture it on film. Cooking. Cuddling. Making Snowangels.
(10.14.09 @ 10:44 AM)Hello! I am in love with these photos! Simply put it is natural beauty captured at its best!
(10.14.09 @ 12:50 PM)My Kind of Romantic: Crisp quiet December morning at the break of dawn, our breaths visible against the air, noses red from the cold, playing in the freshly fallen snow with my fiance of 7 months Waiting to enjoy the sunrise, rays striking the snow reflecting its sparkling beauty, in his arms. (I know a tid bit more than 27words but I had to paint the picture :)
My idea…me, Tommy, our new puppy, decorating for Christmas, hanging stockings and ornaments, in our new home. Celebrating the blessings of our first year of marriage!
(10.14.09 @ 10:25 PM)Us. Playground. Swings. Merry go round. Slide. We spend hrs on swings talking, flirting, and just enjoying each other’s company. Just a couple of “big” kids.
(10.15.09 @ 02:47 PM)Me, the hubby, and our 4-legged kid.. bundled up, hiking at Pere Marquette. Taking in the fresh air and breathtaking views!
(10.15.09 @ 04:02 PM)All of your entries, so amazing. The cozy, celebrations of love, hot chocolate, cold noses...we have such beautiful lives, don't we?!!
So, the winner of the romancing photography, Megan H and the vision of fresh snow and seeing breath and love:)
(10.17.09 @ 08:36 AM)I am a bit tardy in my reply, but you are simply amazing and going to make someone very happy :-) I love the vintage Wonder Years feel!
(10.18.09 @ 06:21 PM)Oh how wonderful! Thank You Clary! I am so excited! :o)
(10.19.09 @ 08:22 AM)In love with these pictures...so soft and dreamy! And of course the family captured in them is adorable. :) Congrats to the winner of the session...I can't wait to see a sneak peek of those romantic images, I know they'll be wonderful!
(10.19.09 @ 02:59 PM)Wow, Clary-
(10.21.09 @ 05:32 PM)I LOVE the film shots- there is such a sense of purity and chance in them, and a feel of nostalgia for the non-digital age.
Keep it up- LOVE the Blackbird Fly camera- HOW COOL is THAT?!?!?
